( ERIDAN AMPORA [Maroon]. )
♠?/♣
Possibly his kismesis. Considering Eridan's organized a guerrilla-style lowblood communist revolution against the emperor, they have a few common goals or interests, but oh does he drive him up the wall. Perhaps it's even deliberate antagonism on Eridan's part, but it's hard to tell seeing as Eridan black-flirts indiscriminately with just about every highblood and seadweller he meets, and antagonism from him might not be anything special--a source of discreet agony for the heir apparent. Karkat mediates an Auspiticeship between Tavros and Eridan supposedly for the sake of the revolution, but more likely thanks to the investment level of his own hatecrush. Auspiticing at least gives him an excuse to suplex Eridan into a stack of manuscripts and beat the crap out of him under the premise of keeping him from getting his skin turned into a drum by a perpetually smiling indigo. And Aradia's had to pick a hateswooning Karkat out of a few awkward scenarios involving telekinetic chaining in priceless historical artifacts. He's pretty much fins-over feet, but in a puppy-hate way, which complicates things with sudden spurts of pity that are entirely inappropriate. Moreso because Karkat suspects Eridan's involved with Feferi, and infidelity is not going to happen here if he has anything to say about it.

( ARADIA MEGIDO [Violet]. )
♦!/♥?
Aradia is, quite simply, Karkat's best friend in the world. They were moirails before they even knew what the word meant. Though...it's hard to pity someone as all-around competent and resourceful as Aradia, which has led Karkat to somewhat trivialize the significance of their friendship on occasion. He himself doesn't know what to think about it since it's so hard to neatly categorize. She's further hinted most recently that she may have flushed feelings for him, which thoroughly baffles Karkat. Not having her there is unthinkable; she's his near-constant companion and confidante, but he has no idea what to do about her feelings, and no number of romcoms seem to have presented a solution for him, thus far. He does care about her. A lot. Unfortunately, it's in an absolutely, uncomfortably platonic way. On some level it bothers him more because he's aware that she'd be a perfect royal consort, and one who wouldn't die on him mid-way through, so to speak, but pale-quadranting a friend with flush feelings for you is just plain cruel, and flush-quadranting someone you have pale feelings for is just wrong. (Quadrants are perfect and made to be upheld appropriately.) FEELINGS ARE HARD, AND GROWING UP IS COMPLICATED.

( TAVROS NITRAM [Indigo]. )

Once upon a time, there was an egregious fairy-loving classist tool who lived on a beach, whose only redeeming feature was the level of pity he inspired in some vaguely clown-worshiping brownblood from inland. And a certain emperor-to-be loathed his oblivious guts, seeing said pair as his own personal walking romcom, wondering day by day why Tavros hadn't figured out just how lucky he was. Then the tool grew up, discovered his heritage and people died. For two sweeps, Tavros has been a thing to be feared by his former friends. He's only just joined the revolution, and settled some, but he's a hair away from full subjuggulator, and...occasionally violent; frightening in a way insomniac Karkat never really has to understand. All he knows is he doesn't really hate Tavros at all, anymore. In fact, he's sort of okay with him, mainly because they both think Eridan's an utter moron, and Tavros seems genuinely fine with being auspiticed out of getting involved with him hatewise. That said, Karkat sure hopes he doesn't decide to bite his hand again and tell him his blood tastes good and he'd like to paint with it, because that's just weird. Karkat also sort of wants to charge into battle on the seven-foot-tall Taurus's shoulders, because fuck it would be almost as impressive as capes, but Tavros tends to resist any attempts at persuasion in this regard.

( GAMZEE MAKARA [Rust]. )
...
If quadrants are one thing in common for all trolls, one thing they can all get behind, then Gamzee is Karkat's poster child for the theory. Let's face it, he's low as dirt, and maybe not all that bright, but he dared to pity an indigo, and even endured being put in a platonic quadrant for his trouble, then being betrayed by the moirail he'd helped. He's fairly selfless, and yes, admittedly, a bit of a tree-hugging, animal-communing "everything is miracles and brothers" type of hippie, but he's something of a born peacemaker even outside of quadrants, and has Karkat's respect for it, in a way. (Though he'd never admit it if called on it.) It's hard to stay mad at Gamzee or upset him. Ether way, Gamzee's personal drama has turned out in happy endings, miraculously enough, and Karkat's a sucker for happy endings. He may or may not spend revolutionary meetings watching the way Gamzee and Tavros look at eachother. It's pretty special. Also, somehow Gamzee's grown wings. Who knows how that worked out, but his fairy-smitten matesprit sure seems happy about it. And somehow, somehow, Gamzee gets along with Eridan, which makes him something of a living saint as far as Karkat understands it.

( NEPETA LEIJON [Cerulean]. )
.../♥?
Okay, so they both got screwed in the needy lusus department, and dividing culling spoils between them seems to work out pretty well in a way. It's almost merciful. That doesn't mean he's any cooler with the perky goth troll thing, or how she wears fishnets, or that freaky mutant eye she's got. It's not like they swap earrings or anything, or even have remotely similar taste in over-the-top jewelry...
Alright, fine, so he pities her. So what? It still doesn't mean she's suitable future troll flushconsort material, or that she's even going to survive this revolution. Especially with how hard she seems to try to keep smiling and keep everyone happy--even her demanding, nearly implacable lusus. That, and it creeps him out how she plays all Equius's dating sim games. She does know that character isn't anything like him, right? Not that it matters.
NOBODY CAN EVER KNOW. Including Aradia. Especially Aradia.

( TEREZI PYROPE
[Jade]
.
)
.../♥?/♠?
Nobody is ever going to confuse him more than Terezi. On the one hand, she makes all his clothes. Even his most outrageously terrible ones. On the other hand, she trolls the living Hell out of him, every chance she gets. On more than one occasion, she's lured him with the promise of very special, fine fabrics, and left him to walk out naked, parading in front of his future subjects. He suspects it's flirting, but flirting for what quadrant is the real question. On one hand, as a future mothergrub attendant, she should share his interests in quadrant purity. On the other, she's a desert troll, ruthless, vicious, capable of enduring the sun, the absolute antithesis to any seadweller.
Unlike with most trolls, he has absolutely no idea where their friendship leans, and towards what, to what end. It's just simply there; just simply happened. And what's more, she seems to win all the time in whatever strange headgame it is she's pulled him into, and he isn't even sure if he minds.

( KANAYA MARYAM
[Teal]
.
)
...
Fairly levelheaded for someone who lives so far off the ground, and sews veritable armies of dragon plushes, actually. Her preoccupation with the necktie is a little disconcerting in a future legislacerator, granted, but it's hard to hold things against another born mediator like Kanaya. A mediator with a chainsaw, and a telepathic fire-breathing dragon for a lusus at that. Every revolution needs its diplomats, and this one has Kanaya Maryam. That said, he can't be quite sure what the deal is with her sniffing Feferi every time she sees her.

( EQUIUS ZAHHAK
[Mustard]
.
)
.../???
Glub...This sweaty douche is the most infuriatingly awkward piece of freakishly strong mutant landshit anyone ever had to deal with. How else is Karkat supposed to react to having himself worshipfully inserted as an object of flushlust in the dating simulations Equius programs? The only thing worse is the way the guy looks at Aradia. Which...okay, is kind of pathetic. At least he knows his place, he'll give him that, and in this revolution, having a distinguished hacker is definitely an advantage. How Nepeta deals with the sweaty sweatervest-wearing nerd is beyond him, though, and there's something infuriating about trying to watch him snub Gamzee and Eridan for being the few possible hemocastes lower than his own.
One thing Karkat definitely hasn't done is play each and every one of the guy's games ever with all possible endings, taking copious notes on insights into lowblood views on quadrants. That would be stupid. Almost as stupid as saving his life on the battlefield. Which also definitely never happened. And it isn't at all embarrassing that Equius is one of the few people who really truly believes he can rule some day as emperor, even when Karkat himself isn't so sure.
